“The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy states that a sequel is an event (or follow-up) which is staged in the wake of a terribly successful first episode: It ALSO states that the sequel really OUGHT to happen AFTER the first event, as doing it the other way around only makes you look like a clever dick, and everyone will only get awfully confused…..”
A year ago, the Genre-Specific Open mic night 42 paid homage to one of its founding inspirations, in hosting an evening called “VOGONESQUE”, in tribute to Douglas Adams and “THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY”. The organisers of 42 took the name of their evenings from Adams celebrated answer to Life, the Universe and Everything, and their open mic night has recently celebrated its first birthday. The first Vogonesque was such a warmly appreciated success that the organisers decided to make it an annual event, as their contribution to Towel Day, the international celebration of Adams life and surreal sci-fi masterpieces. (Held on the 25th of May.)
“VOGONESQUE II” will be held (appropriately) in The Lunar Bar on the 30th of May this year, as of 7.30pm, (above the Swan with Two Nicks in Worcester) when the team will present some of the best in contemporary talent performing wildly surreal, imaginative and mischiefeously funny sci-fi work, in keeping with the great shadow of Adams himself.
“This is a joy,” said Co-Founder of 42 Glenn James, “Doug has had such a huge influence on so many of us writing and performing today, it’s the least we can do to show the massive affection we have for him and his work in this yearly knees up! I hope where ever he is he will be listening, and will enjoy the festivities, as he takes pot-shots at aggressive deadlines from on high.”
The evening is expected to see an extremely strong line up, including: Andrew Owens, Jackie Summers, Craigus Barry and Ed Steelfox, Geoff Robinson, Suz Winspear, Michael. R. Brush, Fergus McGonigal, William Shatspeare, David Calcutt and Wolfren Riverstick. For further details see the events Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/264255166993339
Fans of Douglas Adams and the Hitchhiker’s Guide are urged to drape a towel around their shoulders and join us for a night to remember before the Universe explodes. Tickets are £3.00 on the door.
