Elon Musk the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, Inc. stated during the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas on Sunday that they will be launching the first stage of the Mars and Interplanetary space ship as early as next year.

Last year he announced that they will make the first cargo shipments to Mars by 2022, followed by the delivery of the first human colonists to the Red Planet. He also plans to build amenities for the future colonists as well. His Mars and Interplanetary ship could be the Big Falcon Rocket (BFR) or another named craft under the development now.

Musk is an outspoken advocate of human colonization of Mars and stated Sunday that the future of mankind may depend on it. Mr. Musk is the foremost leader on space exploration and leads the private sector with his efforts. He also stated that he is on the cutting edge of Artificial Intelligence (AI), but warned that should we choose to go that route we should do so very carefully. He stated that AI is more dangerous than nukes and that its more capable than anybody knows. He cited that AI’s growth is exponential.
