“Nosferatu @ 42”
OPEN MIC NIGHT’S 1ST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATES THE ORIGINAL FILM OF DRACULA
It has been almost 12 months since 42, the Genre Open Mic Night started in Worcestershire, and the Founders have something special planned for their birthday bash in March.
42 was started by Glenn and Angela James in 2011, to provide a platform for writers, musicians, and performers interested in genre subjects to find their audience and a voice. It has grown significantly in the last year, and branches of 42 will be starting in Birmingham, Newcastle-Under-Lyme, and Stoke-on-Trent. With the events first birthday coming up, the significance of its opening month can be revealed.
In looking forward when 42 was established, March was chosen as in that month in 2012, it will be 90 years since the premiere of the first full-length film adaption of Dracula: The legendary German film “Nosferatu,” by F. W. Murnau.
Nosferatu, the most Gothic and chilling vampire film ever made, will be the event’s theme for the evening, and the organisers invite its contributors to embrace the dark theme in their works for the night.
42’s organisers have formed a strong natural bond with the Worcestershire Film Festival, (now in their inaugural year), and headed by founder Simon Munn, the Film festival will be contributing to the Nosferatu evening in style. (They contributed significantly to 42’s Frankenstein celebration in November, marking the 80th anniversary of Boris Karloff’s 1931 film.)
Contributors on the evening will include the renowned Gothic Diva Suz Winspear, (who appeared for the first time in the first opening slot at 42 last year), Raine Evans, Fergus McGonigal, Damon Lord, Darren Farley, John Taylor, Joseph O’Donnell, and continues with the fine serial of Michael. R. Brush. The night will hopefully also see contributions by the events fondly regarded American correspondents.
42 attracts the very best in writing and performing talent in the region and overseas, and instantly developed a reputation for both the excellence of the participants work, and also for the events friendly and welcoming atmosphere. 42 has formed strong links with the Worcestershire Music Festival and the Rotary Club Vigornia of Worcestershire. Warmly supported by the regions media, 42 has developed a good reputation. Ran by the team of Glenn and Angela James and Arts Supremo John Taylor, 42 also works with the renowned American genre Magazine “The Eerie Digest”, published by notable writer Joseph O’Donnell, in whose pages many 42 contributors have seen their work published.
On approaching the occasion, Co-Founder and Senior-Organiser Glenn James had this to say; “Most people who have followed 42 know that we took the name from Douglas Adams’ great answer to Life, the Universe and Everything, but this is the first time we have revealed the significance of our event’s birthday month. Nosferatu is a massively significant and highly original Gothic film, which had an incalculable influence on vampire movies and the genre as a whole. We really wanted to do it honour, as it inspired the month when we started 42, and Murnau’s film is now reaching an incredible 90 years of age. We hope everyone will get into the spirit of the occasion…”
The anniversary meeting will be held on Wednesday 28th of March, and 42 is held in the Lunar Bar above the Swan with Two Nicks public house in central Worcester. Tickets are £3.00 and available on the door.
