HOT NIGHTS

© 2012 Candice James

Hot nights, tender and cruel,

Wet, slick, flaming moments

Licking our bodies

Whipping this dream

To a higher state of frenzy.

Stepladder to the stars,

Shooting like a rocket

Fueled by the beating

Of our hearts

Tangled up in

Hot nights,tender and cruel.

Crashing the shores of emotion

Tidal wave of heat

Raging yet soothing

Pulls us under.

Breathless,

Welcoming the death

We chase to expiate the passion,

We’ve fashioned

Tenderly and cruelly into

Hot nights.

MARBLE AND FROST

© 2011 Candice James

On the marble tiled floor of my memory

The paintings shine from the walls

In the frosted blue mirror above me

Cobalt rivers that flow to the sea

Dark canyons with white waterfalls

On the marble tiled floor of my memory

And always you come back to me

With ghostly murmurs and calls

In the frosted blue mirror above me

In the lost depths of my reverie

A shadow from yesterday shawls

On the marble tiled floor of my memory

A ribbon of sunset surrounds me

As burnt ink indelibly scrawls

In the frosted blue mirror above me

Your image always will be

Flowing through star dusted halls

On the marble tiled floor of my memory,

In the frosted blue mirror above me.

PUDDLE

© Candice James

A rain puddle glistens

With shards of scarlet heart

Disguised in crumpled robes

Discarded

Vestiges of a burned out cathedral.

Prayers,

Buried in sacrilegious sermons

Delivered in dust

And Vesuvial ash

From perdition’s podium.

Shivering inside an icicled Hell,

A raindrop whisper,

Aswirl in a bandit breeze

Has handcuffed my heart

To a muffled cry,

Clawing its way through

This screaming silence

I’ve become.

The rain puddle glistens.

The cathedral crumbles.

The robes, fade, yellow,

Teeth, gnash and chew at prayers

Devouring them

Until there’s nothing left

Except the puddle

Rippling in a distant chant.

WITH AGELESS FRAGILITY

© 2011 Candice James

Your image, an indelible stain on my mind,

A dark blue portrait of passion and dreams,

With ageless fragility thus designed.

A cipher for love letters undefined,

Buried in pockets of silent screams,

Your image, an indelible stain on my mind.

Always pure, your face never maligned,

Illuminated in pearl moonbeams,

With ageless fragility thus designed.

All broken vows now underlined

As the ink bends, breaks into tears and streams,

Your image, an indelible stain on my mind.

Moving fast forward into rewind

Everything becoming what least it seems,

With ageless fragility thus designed.

Passion’s rule won’t be undermined;

The tip of her pen glistens and gleams;

Your image, an indelible stain on my mind,

With ageless fragility thus designed.
