‘Shattered’ and ‘Patch Work’ by Guest Poet Alex Knight

A fine line

Walked daily

Pulled one way

Pushed another

Cries for help

Ignored.

“You’re the one

we always

count on,

the

‘strong one.'”

Sleepless nights

Eggshell walking days

Beyond tired

Forehead smashes

The bathroom mirror

Fragmented images

Stare back

A sad realization

The

mirror

is

not

what

is

broken.

Patch Work

By Alex Knight

Needles pierce

the fabric of my being

stitches here

new pieces there

attempting in vain

to restore

Decades of destruction

Caused by belief

In my own

Invulnerability

Stitching my soul

Healing my heart

Is not as easy

Edges frayed and ragged

Will not come together

Despite endless mending

The damage is forever
